Bill Gates says US mistook Gaza, Palestine for Mozambique's Gaza in aid cutoff

Criticising the Trump administration's dismantling of USAID in an interview with Bloomberg, American businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates said the governemnt's aid reductions had caused chaos worldwide.

Citing one example, he referred to the US government's cancelling of HIV prevention funds to Gaza, an area of Mozambique, in the mistaken belief that the money was being sent to Gaza, the occupied Palestinian territory in the Middle East.

The White House had caused controversy earlier this year when falsely claiming that the US was spending $50 million on sending condoms to Gaza as part of its foreign aid program.
